G cup bra size: a US G and a UK G are two cups apart

A G cup is not one size. On US ladders (Wacoal, Freya, Elomi) G is seven inches of difference, which the UK calls F. On UK ladders G is nine inches, which the US calls I. Two cups apart, 5.1 cm of difference, under the same letter.

  • US G. Wacoal, Freya and Elomi print US G next to UK F. Seven inches of difference.
  • UK G. The UK ladder runs F, FF, G, GG, H: G is the ninth inch, and the US calls it I (Wacoal, Freya, Elomi). Marks & Spencer's UK G on band 32 is printed with a US I.

Sister sizes keep the G cup's volume

Go down one band and up one letter, or up one band and down one letter, and the cup volume stays the same. Shown for US G on a 34 band.

What the +4 method does to this cup

The traditional method adds 4 inches to an even underbust and takes the cup from what is left. For US G (7 in) that changes the answer on every band.

Same tape, two methodsBust is the underbust plus 7 in. Computed by the Bra Atlas engine.

White and Scurr (2012) found the traditional method overestimated band size and underestimated cup size (Ergonomics 55(6)). A size from an older calculator may not be the size on this page.

What is particular about the G cup

Which G is on the tag

A US 34G is 34F in UK labels, EU 75G. A UK 34G is US 34I, EU 75I. If the brand sells in US sizing (Elomi, Fantasie and Freya say they do), read G as the seven-inch cup; if it is a UK brand, read it as nine.

SKIMS pairs G with two different cups

SKIMS's own cup table pairs its US G with UK G (nine inches on the other ladders we read) and EU H (eight). A SKIMS G cannot be converted with a general chart: use its chart.

Three answers in Australia

A UK G is an AU H on Berlei's ladder, which skips FF and GG, an AU G on Freya's and Elomi's charts, which repeat the UK letters, and an AU FF on Marks & Spencer's table. See the Australia section of the international size chart.

What the +4 method does to a seven-inch G

A 36 in underbust and a 43 in bust measure 36F, the US G. The +4 method pads the band to 40 and gives 40C. For the nine-inch UK G, 36 in and 45 in, it gives 40DD against 36G.
